New Motor Vehicle Sales, Total vehicles - Short term

• Trend - The August 2010 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (85 683) decreased by 0.4% when compared with July 2010.
• Seasonally Adjusted - The August 2010 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (84 999) increased by 0.3% when compared with July 2010.

• Trend - When comparing trend estimates for August 2010 with July 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles decreased by 1.1%. Over the same period sales of Sports utility vehicles and Other vehicles increased by 1.0% and 0.1% respectively.
• Seasonally Adjusted - When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for August 2010 with July 2010, sales of Other vehicles increased by 4.5%, while Sports utility vehicles and Passenger vehicles decreased by 2.1% and 0.2% respectively.

• Trend - Five of the eight states and territories contributed to the national decrease in trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales when comparing August 2010 with July 2010. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage decrease with 2.1%, followed by Queensland (1.1%) and Victoria (0.6%). This was offset by increases in other states and territories. Western Australia recorded the largest percentage increase with 0.8%, followed by the Northern Territory (0.6%) and the Australian Capital Territory (0.2%).
• Seasonally Adjusted - In seasonally adjusted terms, sales of new motor vehicles decreased in six of the eight states and territories for August 2010 when compared with July 2010. The Northern Territory recorded the largest percentage decrease of 5.8%, followed by Western Australia (2.4%) and Tasmania (1.3%). The largest percentage increase for new motor vehicle sales occurred in New South Wales (2.7%).
